Keyes vs. Obama on the issues

Life

| Keyes |

|
Obama |
| Pro-life. Keyes has devoted much of his life's work to defending the innocent unborn and the human dignity of every person. |
Pro-infanticide. Supports abortion on demand through all nine months of pregnancy. Failed to support ban on gruesome practice of live birth abortion (SB 1661, 1662, 1663) and partial birth abortions (HB 382). |
Traditional marriage

| Keyes |

|
Obama |
| Pro-protection of traditional marriage. Keyes believes that marriage can only be defined as a union between one man and one woman. |
Anti-protection of traditional marriage. Said Obama, "I will oppose any proposal to amend the Constitution to ban gays and lesbians from marrying." (Windy City Times, 4/2/04) |
Second Amendment freedoms

| Keyes |

|
Obama |
| Pro-Second Amendment. Keyes supports every citizen's right to defend themselves, their family, and their property. |
Anti-gun. Obama is an anti-gun extremist who even opposed legal protection for IL citizens who defend their homes and families from an intruder. (SB 2165) |
Tax relief for working families

| Keyes |

|
Obama |
| Pro-tax relief. Keyes supports the permanent elimination of the federal income tax and the death tax. |
Anti-tax relief. Obama believes federal taxes should return to higher levels--and as a state senator, has supported continually raising taxes. |
Strong economy

| Keyes |

|
Obama |
| Pro-free market. Keyes believes that a strong economy begins in the home, with stable, moral families. He also believes that competitive free enterprise--not government programs--is the key to economic growth. |
Anti-free market. Obama supports costly government solutions that interfere with free enterprise, create disincentives to business, hinder competition, and destroy jobs. |
Jobs

| Keyes |

|
Obama |
| Pro-jobs. Keyes understands that jobs come from businesses, not government, and that a healthy business environment is essential to creating good jobs. This requires low taxes, limited regulation, and trade policies that preserve existing jobs. |
Anti-jobs. Obama talks about jobs, and then votes in ways that strangle them--through raising taxes and fees, increasing regulations, and expanding the intrusion of government into the private sector. |
Fair trade

| Keyes |

|
Obama |
| Pro-worker. Keyes opposes the World Trade Organization and agreements that weaken American job markets. He favors, instead, direct bilateral trade agreements between the U.S. and other countries that yield better trade deals for American farmers and manufacturers. He also favors tariffs on goods entering the U.S. from countries that have unfair trade advantages. |
Anti-worker. Obama supports the World Trade Organization, and mistakenly believes that swift completion of the latest WTO talks will improve fair trade policies. He favors increased market access for Cuba and strict enforcement of flawed trade agreements already on the books. |
Family farms

| Keyes |

|
Obama |
| Pro-family farm. Keyes considers family farms the nursery of America's moral character and would strengthen them through reversing flawed trade policies, de-collectivizing banks, and increasing market-based incentives. |
Anti-family farm. Obama supports agricultural welfarism and defective WTO trade policies that hurt family farms and weaken America's traditional moral seedbed. |
Tort reform

| Keyes |

|
Obama |
| Pro-tort reform. Keyes supports tort reform to keep businesses in Illinois and protect the quality of our health care system. |
Anti-tort reform. Obama is against caps on medical malpractice awards. (State Journal-Register, 3/17/04) |
Health care

| Keyes |

|
Obama |
| Pro-consumer. Keyes supports lowering health-care costs by introducing market forces, tax-deductible medical savings accounts, and greater emphasis on diet and fitness--in addition to capping medical malpractice awards. |
Anti-consumer. Obama voted to raise taxes on health insurance premiums, passing cost increases on to the consumer. He supports socialistic Universal Health Care--the type of disgraced federalized program promoted by Hillary Clinton. |
Education reform and school choice

| Keyes |

|
Obama |
| Pro-school choice. Keyes supports empowering parents to ensure that every child has access to a quality education. |
Anti-choice. Obama opposes school choice and even opposed the tuition tax credit for public and private school families. (SB 1075) |
Pornography on the internet

| Keyes |

|
Obama |
| Anti-pornography. Keyes supports Internet filters at public libraries and schools to protect young children. |
Pro-pornography. Obama voted against making school boards equip computers with filtering software to prevent minors from gaining access to explicit materials. (HB 1812) |
Crime

| Keyes |

|
Obama |
| Pro-solution. Keyes believes family disintegration and refusal to take personal responsibility are the major contributing factors in crime. To deal effectively with crime, our first priority should be to strengthen and safeguard the marriage-based two-parent family--while impartially enforcing fair and sensible laws. |
Anti-solution. Obama voted against bills to add extra penalties for gang-related crime, against making it a crime for accused gang members free on probation or bond to associate with other gang members, and against prohibiting early release of convicted sex offenders. |
Corruption

| Keyes |

|
Obama |
| Pro-clean-up. Keyes is committed not only to cleaning up corruption in Illinois, but to changing the culture of the U.S. Senate. Our country needs leaders who can't be bought--whose moral core is not negotiable--and Alan is committed to being that kind of leader. |
Anti-clean-up. Obama is supported by the Chicago Democratic machine. He votes with union bosses and is beholden to a long list of special interests. He will promote the destructive agenda of the Democratic Party and push our country further from its foundations. |
Rule of law

| Keyes |

|
Obama |
| Pro-rule of law. Keyes believes in adhering faithfully to the intent of our founding documents, and will fight tenaciously to prevent unelected federal judges from creating law from the bench. |
Anti-rule of law. Obama rejects the intent of our founding documents and supports judges who usurp authority and ignore the will of the people as expressed through their elected representatives. |
Immigration

| Keyes |

|
Obama |
| Pro-law abiding. Keyes believes in expanding legal immigration and curtailing illegal immigration-and opposes granting privileges of citizenship to non-citizens. |
Anti-law abiding. Obama's brand of "multicultural" liberalism causes him to be vague on the critical issue of illegal immigration, jeopardizing our country's security and strength. |
War on terror

| Keyes |

|
Obama |
| Pro-Bush policy. Keyes supports President Bush's efforts in the war on terror, including the War in Iraq, and believes that the only way to deal with terrorism is to confront it directly and prevent it from striking again. |
Anti-Bush policy. Obama is critical of President Bush's war on terror and has said he doesn't support the war in Iraq. He sides with John Kerry's soft approach to terrorism. |
Israel

| Keyes |

|
Obama |
| Pro-Israel. Ambassador Keyes is an outspoken defender of Israel who believes America's special relationship with Israel is a moral obligation. He therefore believes Israel and America must remain strong allies in the war on terror. |
Pro-Arab interests. Obama is critical of the Bush administration for not pressuring Israel to capitulate to "international" solutions to Palestinian terrorism. Obama's lack of experience in foreign policy would jeopardize U.S. interests. |
